There are a lot of different strategies I use when I’m on the road, in order to stick to my Lifestyle Plan. Sometimes I pack along a healthy picnic lunch, sometimes I seek out chain restaurants that have lower-calorie menu items and sometimes I even hit the local Wal-Mart for a healthier dinner entrée. But nothing really beats your own home made dinner; so I’ve also started adding that menu option to some of my trips. To be honest it won’t work for everyone, or even for every trip; but it was just what the doctor ordered on a short three-day getaway last week.
It was really simple to do. First I made sure that my hotel had a refrigerator and a microwave. Then I packed along our picnic supplies along with a frozen homemade entrée. In this case it was my Alfredo Primavera, and some Focaccia bread. By the time I got to my hotel, the entrée was thawed, and I just popped it in the microwave.
The end result was a healthy and tasty road trip dinner. And I managed to dodge the fast food restaurants that surrounded my hotel. All in all it was the perfect strategy for this trip. So give it a try on the first night of your next road trip.
