It’s not often that I rave about gluten-free pizza (other than my own creations); but a recent visit to Reno left me wowed by the wheat-free pie at a local pizza joint. Located just a few blocks from Virginia Street, Noble Pie is everything you could ask for in a healthy pizza restaurant — and more.
Let’s start with the salad. It’s fresh and filled with mixed greens, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and black olives; then topped with a bit of aged pecorino and some almond slivers. Add in some sweet basil vinaigrette and it’s a tasty and filling little starter.
Now on to the main attraction — the pizza. One problem with most gluten free pizza crusts is that they are over-baked, dry and flavorless. Not so with Noble Pie’s gluten-free creations. My backyard chicken pizza was flavorful and cooked to perfection, and topped with BBQ sauce, rotisserie chicken, pepperoni, red and green onions and red peppers.
Absolutely delicious. And dare I say, almost as good as the stuff that comes out of my own oven.
It should be noted that the gluten-free pizzas only come in the 12-inch size; but to be honest that’s plenty for two people. Let’s just call it built-in portion control.
I can’t wait to go back to Reno. Who’d of thought those words would ever come out of my mouth?
